“Someone’s got it in for me / they’re planting stories in the press.” This opening line from “Idiot Wind,” the scathing classic from Bob Dylan’s 1975 album Blood on the Tracks, sounds eerily like a tweet composed by President Trump on one of his late-night diatribes. During this time of extreme paranoia and “alternative facts,” it seems only fitting to put together a playlist of songs about lies, deception, and empty talk. I’ve included the profoundly appropriate “Idiot Wind” here, as well as a host of songs on the topic, from the political to the personal.
For a Dark Side of the Moon–Wizard of Oz type experience, I recommend pairing this playlist with cable news on mute. If they’re covering Sean Spicer’s daily press briefing, all the better.
